ASU combines a global Kaplan creator pathway, Cronkite immersive media training, and AI Acceleration sprints — a model UpperClass scales across time zones.
Section 01
Arizona State University (ASU) uses a multi-layered approach to student creation, combining corporate partnerships, immersive media training, and student-designed artificial intelligence. Partnering with global educational pathways leader Kaplan International, ASU sought to lower barriers for incoming international recruits. Simultaneously, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication established the Los Angeles Content Studio inside the historic Herald Examiner Building to teach students next-generation content strategy and audience monetization.
Section 02
The Kaplan program manages an expanding cohort of international students who work 5 hours per week during the academic term at $15 per hour. Under remote management by Kaplan's global social media team, creators produce vlogs, blog posts, Instagram Reels, and TikToks to share the international student experience.
The Cronkite School's Narrative and Emerging Media program trains professional-tier students in immersive AR, VR, and 3D studio storytelling. Separately, ASU's AI Acceleration team runs the AI Acceleration Student Innovation Challenge, coordinated by AI Innovation Specialists and Product Managers. This program brings together student teams for intensive three-week sprints to prototype student-led campus technologies.
