Early attempts faced significant administrative hurdles, including irregular tracking of hourly payroll, slow response times (48–72 hours), and severe compliance risks for international students operating under strict visa work-hour limits.
To resolve these structural issues, CWRU eliminated hourly student payroll for creators entirely. Instead, they transitioned the program into a highly structured, non-monetary community and professional development network focused on recognition and portfolio architecture. The university implemented the Unibuddy platform, integrated it with their Slate CRM, and embedded interactive student profiles across the engineering website.
